Be Patient and Wait on the Lord

I have waited, waited for the Lord, and he stooped toward me. The Lord heard my cry. He drew me out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud of the swamp; he set my feet upon a crag; he made firm my steps. (Psalm 40:2-3)

Reflection :

Whenever a man faces difficulties in life, he tends to forget all the good things that the Lord has done for him in the past. What he sees is his present situation and at times even blame the Lord for putting him in such a predicament.

God so loved the people of Israel that he brought them out of slavery from Egypt to the land that he promised where they will live as free men.  Along the way, in spite of all the mighty works they have seen as proof of the Lord's affection for them, they became impatient. They have completed forgotten that in their journey, God is with them every step of the way. They knew that God saved them from the swords of the Egyptian soldiers yet they have doubted his ability to provide them food and drink. Their lack of patience has brought them to sin against God (Nm. 21 : 4 - 9).

Patience is a virtue that needs to be nortured in order to become a better person. The definition of the word patience is the ability to tolerate delay. This requires discipline and implies self control and forbearance as opposed to wanting what we want when we want it.

Rushing to get things done usually ends up with a lot of errors and mistakes. You may have jumped the gun so quickly only to find out that it would have been so much better if you took time out to be patient about it and allow the natural course of healing to happen.

Wait on the Lord for all good things come to those who wait upon him.
